What goals do you have for your child this school year?

Think about it

  • What goals do you have this year?

  • What plan do you have in place to make sure these goals happen?

We often ask children to be prepared for school, but are we prepared to see to it that their academic successes are realized?

Ask yourself:

  • Do I know what my child’s teacher expects of him or her this year?

  • Do I know how to check my child’s assignments, even if they are submitted on a computer?

  • Do I know how much time my child has to turn in an assignment if he misses one?

  • Do I know how to find out when tests and quizzes will take place in key subjects this year?

  • Do I have space set up at home where my child can study quietly, without interruptions and the television or social media? Do I make sure my child spends enough time studying during the day?

  • Does my child spend more time on social media than he or she spends reading or studying?

  • What things can I put in place to make sure all of these areas are addressed throughout the school year?

This may seem daunting, but it’s really about a lifestyle change.  If education is something that you value, you demonstrate that in your lifestyle and in the home…we can’t expect other people, or teachers, to be the leaders when it comes to our children’s education—we have to be the leaders.
