Why is college important?

Why is college important?

Because you can’t rely on anybody else.  I am going to answer this question just like I did when I would talk to my son or when I talk to family about it.

You don’t know what the future holds. You don’t know what will happen, for sure, in this economy over the next 30 to 40 years.

You do know that, more than likely, computers will be a part of our lives.  You know that our cars, our classrooms, our stores and our day-to-day lives are likely to become more computerized and that people with degrees are likely to be hired in many of these companies to hold positions of leadership or even entry-level positions that get your foot in the door.

Let’s say you wanted to become a police officer, you know that having a degree will better able you to become an administrator or leader in the force.  It doesn’t mean that you have to get a degree to become a great officer, but why limit yourself.  You don’t know if 4 years down the road you may want to become a leader in the force…don’t limit your opportunities by not getting a degree, when you can.

Education helps you create opportunities—whether that’s in entrepreneurship, in a job, in public service, in your home, in your financial investments…being able to learn new information and gathering talents can help you greatly in life.
