Genesis Chapter 1: In the Beginning Was the Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. - John 1:1

We are a divine reflection of God.

It is important to understand the basis of your spirituality and, therefore, your identity as it relates to the world.  The Bible clearly gives us information that at the very beginning of time God had divine wisdom and order as expressed in the Word.  When given divine articulation (which can be thought of as divine expression/sound) the Word became flesh and helped to bring into existence everything that exists in the universe.

This is important to know because you are a divine expression of God.  The way you view yourself is central your success and happiness in life and it is clear that an unhealthy, or false, view of yourself leads to problems in your life.  Let’s look at this divine expression and Word which God spoke.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, “Let there be light”: and there was light.

Genesis 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:6 And God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”

Genesis 1:9 And God said, “Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear”: and it was so.

What is taking place is God is expressing its divine will and wisdom and causing what’s in his heart to be developed into the world.  You share in this same ability and as long as you operate within God’s plan for your life, you can also bring about developments in your life.

Genesis 1:11 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth”: and it was so.

Genesis 1:14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:”

Genesis 1:20 And God said, “Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.”

Genesis 1:26 And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”

God, with the divine Word (Jesus, God’s expression of divine Wisdom and order), brought forth mankind.  This is a fundamental identification you should have about yourself—you are a divine expression of God.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

In everything that you do, in everything that you experience—in everything that you believe, you must see yourself as a divine expression of God.  Whether you’re male or female, regardless of your station in life, you must never believe that there is anybody between you and God, you are a direct and divine expression of the Creator.

This becomes the way you should see the world and the challenges you go through.  This will be the lens we use to interpret the Bible.

We are a divine reflection of God.
