Genesis Chapter 12: I Will Bless Them That Bless Thee

I Will Bless Them That Bless Thee, and Curse Them That Curse Thee

Here the Lord tells Abram to get out of his country and to go to a land which the Lord will show him.

Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Do not think that God won’t bless the world through the work that you do.  Your work and your life can be a blessing to your community, your family and to others.  God is really good at managing multiple things at once and you (as well as other people) can have a positive impact in your community.

So Abram left, with Lot, and his wife, Sarai, to got into the land of Canaan.

Genesis 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto they seed will I give the land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him

Genesis 12:8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

Here Abram “journeyed” south and there was a famine in the land.  He, therefore, went into Egypt and while approaching it, he became afraid that men would think that his wife was beautiful and want to kill him in order to take her for themselves.  He, thus, told her to say that she was his sister in order to save his life.

We they got there, the men did indeed think Sarai was beautiful and she was taken into the house of the ruler of Egypt (Pharaoh).  Eventually, the ruler of Egypt is plagued, by God, for Sarai being in his house, and calls Abram to him and says, “…why didst thou not tell me she was that wife?”  Genesis 12:18

Eventually, he commands Abram to take Sarai and instructs his men to see to it that they are sent away with all that they had.

So much of the Bible happens in Egypt, and in areas where there are, and were, people of color.  Don’t let anybody tell you that the Bible is devoid of Africans or people of color.
