Genesis Chapter 17: You Have a Part To Play in God’s Covenant With You
You Have a Part To Play in God’s Covenant With You
Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Genesis 17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
Genesis 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
Genesis 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
Genesis 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
God’s covenant for you, for your life, is a part of God’s purpose for your life. It is important to walk in your purpose. It is in your purpose where you will find peace. It is in your purpose where you will find success. It is in your purpose where you will find comfort. Being in your purpose requires effort from you and action. It is not like you can walk in your purpose and do nothing.
“….walk before me, and be thou perfect.”
God requires success of you and is prepared to make you experience it, if you walk in your purpose. You can’t be everybody else, and you can’t follow everybody else’s purpose. You have to follow your own and that is the way you will find peace.
Genesis 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generation for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
You can have a fruitful life for you and your children. You can live in morality and peace. It doesn’t matter that everything around you is going in a certain direction, you can say, “No!” to outside influences that push you and your children in the wrong direction. You have to start with God’s purpose for you and not by chasing what you see others doing in fields of entertainment. You might have to cut off the television or get off the Internet and start to hear from within you what God has in store for you. You may have to sacrifice some of the things that distract you from God in order to hear from God and to find your purpose.
Genesis 17:10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
Genesis 17:11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
You will have to keep your end of the bargain and do something in your work as you walk in your purpose and keep God’s covenant with you for your life.
